Abstract : Five-year-old Sensation mango trees were subjected to pruning and fruit thinning treatments. Selective thinning to 70 fruits per tree during Oct. or Nov. reduced total fruit weight per tree by approximately 50 and 30%, respectively, compared with no thinning. Average fruit size was increased from count 14 (controls) to count 10 (treated trees). This represented a fruit weight increase of more than 110 g. Trees that were pruned in May or Nov. had fruits of counts 14 and 12, respectively, and fruit weight increases of approximately 10 and 57 g, respectively. The treatments also gave rise to variations in fruit quality.
