Abstract : The natural occurrence of insect pollinators was studied over a 3-year period on a farm in the Letsitele Valley. During this period, 67 different species of insects were observed visiting mango flowers. The most common visitors by far were honey bees. Although most of the insects observed were ineffective pollinators, several other bee species and some flies, appeared to contribute significantly to pollination. It is suggested that further research be conducted on the potentially significant pollinators, and on the complement of pollinators in other mango growing areas of South Africa.
