Abstract : The occurrence of the postharvest diseases, anthracnose (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata]) and soft brown rot (Nattrassia mangiferae), is one of the major problems currently experienced by the South African mango industry. Various fruit treatment systems are in use in packhouses. Tremendous variation in the extent of their effect in controlling postharvest diseases is apparent. A few mango packhouses were monitored to assess this variation. No significant differences between the packlines examined where found. Differences in disease control appeared to relate more to orchard management practices, than to packhouse treatment.
