Evaluation of slatted wooden crates for mango transport and packaging.

Abstract : Slatted wooden boxes with the same volume as the traditional tea chests were tested for transporting and storing mangoes in Sri Lanka. Shallow slatted crates produced less crop losses compared with tea chests. Deep slatted crates were not as effective, although they resulted in some reduced loss. It is suggested that the crates would be an economically acceptable method of transportation for the traders in Sri Lanka.
