Abstract : Until recently, the only Diaspidids recorded from Colombia were Unaspis citri (Comst.) and Pinnaspis aspidistrae (Sign.). Notes are given on the morphology, food-plants and habits of these two species and of three other Diaspidids observed there for the first time in 1971-72. U. citri has only been observed on Citrus; P. aspidistrae attacks Citrus and has also been observed on guava, geranium, Pithecolobium (Samanea) saman and Desmodium sp.; Pinnaspis strachani (Cooley) was found on Citrus; Aulacaspis tubercularis Newst. was found only on mango; and Diaspis boisduvalii Sign. appeared to develop mainly on orchids and Musa sp., though it was also observed on coconut palms and Talauma pumilla. A key based on the shape of the female shield is provided for the separation of these five species.
