Abstract : The morphology, life cycle and habits of the cecidomyiid Contarinia citri (a serious pest of mango flowers in Yunnan province, China) were observed in 1991-93 at a mango plantation in Jinggu. In the hot and humid conditions in Jinggu, 5 or 6 overlapping generations of the pest were usually completed annually, requiring 16-23 days to complete each. An integrated management system was developed, combining chemical, agronomic and biological measures, and is recommended. Damage by the pest was reduced from 60-70% in untreated trees to 0.29% using the system.
