Abstract : In 1969, larvae of Monopis (Hyalospila) lueconeurella (Rag.) were found damaging fruits of mango in an orchard near Tiruchipalli, Tamil Nadu, India, and in 1971 up to 15% of the mango fruits in most other orchards in the area were also infested. The biology of the Pyralid is described from observations in the laboratory and field. For control, 0.1% endosulfan (Thiodan) or trichlorphon (Dipterex) applied to the trees in sprays, or 0.2% BHC applied to the soil in sprays to control the pupae and emerging adults, are recommended.
