Abstract : Fruit characters of 51 cultivars were evaluated. The cultivar Namtal-Pak-Kra-Bok was selected for table use on account of its large fruit (mean weight 400 g), thick skin (about 0.27 cm), small seeds, high percentage of firm yellow flesh, low fibre and high sugar content, and sweet flavour. Sampee was selected for processing on account of its soft flesh, low fibre content and acid-sweet flavour, traits which make it suitable for juice production. Of 46 cultivars tested for rootstock purposes, Talabnak was selected as suitable on account of its dwarf canopy and precocious onset of flowering (4 years from the seedling stage).
