Abstract : Sixteen cultivars in an orchard at Rajapalayam and 43 at Periyakulam, both in the Madurai region of Tamil Nadu, were screened for resistance to A. mangiferae in April and May 1992. In general, infestation was higher in May than in April, and there were interactions between varieties and sampling periods. At Rajapalayam, Mohandas and Malgoa were free of infestation in both months, while Panchavarnam, Bangalora, Swarnarega, Killimooku and Padiri were free at the second observation, possibly due to heavy latex production following previous mite injuries. At Periyakulam, Alampur-Baneshan, Chandrakaran, Panchavarnam and Panchathara Kalasu were free of mites at both samplings, while Kalepad and Banganapalli were mite-free at the first observation.
