Abstract : Purchase and consumption habits, as well as in-home handling of mango are characterized. A consumer survey was done by direct interview in the main Mexican shopping centres. It was found that 48% of the interviewed consumers bought mango once a week in amounts above 1 kg, but under 3 kg (84%). Consumers bought mango more frequently during harvest season (77%) and when the fruit price fell (64%). A high proportion of consumers (67%) did not report in-home mango losses, and 30% had losses lower than 10%. Consumers (67%) also reported that they consumed the fruit when it had a small rotten area, once it was removed. In-home cold storage of mango is a common practice.
