Abstract : The bacterium isolated from affected mangoes was identified as Pseudomonas mangiferae-indicae. It was concluded that this organism has caused all disease outbreaks in S. Africa, India and Pakistan and not Erwinia mangiferae. The official description of P. mangiferae-indicae should be amended and extended, and the sp. removed from the fluorescent group in the key for identifying P. spp.ADDITIONAL ABSTRACT:It was concluded that Erwinia mangiferae was not responsible for bacterial black spot of mangoes and that Pseudomonas mangiferaeindicae was the causal agent for all outbreaks of this disease in South Africa, India and Pakistan.
