Abstract : Fusarium moniliforme [Gibberella fujikuroi] is invariably isolated from the malformed parts of all vars. The way natural spread occurs remains obscure. Fungal growth is inhibited in summer and the fungus is inactivated above 55 deg C. Systemic fungicides must be used to cure diseased plants as the fungus occurs in the cortex and phloem. A combination of pruning and the use of insecticides, fungicides and growth regulators may control the disease.
