Abstract : In 1991-93, the physiological disorders (a) radicel [radicle] sprout and (b) [pulp] breakdown were studied in Parvin, Keitt and Tommy Atkins mango fruits. In 1991/92, the incidence of (a) in Parvin seed was 25.9-47.6% and (b) was 12.5-37.0% in fruits stored at room temperature (27.2°C, 71.5% RH), and the incidence of (a) was 5.5-28.6% and (b) was 8.3-27.8% in fruits held in cold storage (14.0°, 77% RH) for 21 days before being held in ambient conditions (29.0°, 58.8% RH). In the 1992/93 harvest, Parvin had an incidence of (a) of 23.5-66.7% when stored at room temperature (25.4°, 78.7% RH). In the 1991/92 harvest, fruits of Keitt showed 13.3-20.0% of (a) and 8.3-13.3% of (b) at room temperature (27.8°, 64.6% RH) and 0% of (a) and 8.3% of (b) in fruits held in cold storage before being held in ambient conditions (26.7°, 68.8% RH). In the 1992/93 harvest, fruits of Tommy Atkins were unaffected by (a) when stored at room temperature or in cold storage; the incidence of (b) was 5.3-20.0% at room temperature (25.6°, 77% RH) and 7.1-9.1% in fruits held in cold storage before being placed in ambient conditions (26.7°, 81.5% RH).
