Abstract : Studies in 1985-88 at Bhubaneswar in Orissa showed that the cultivar Neelum was the only 1 of the 5 cultivars tested which exhibited the desirable characters of shorter plants, narrower trunks, smaller canopy area, fewer primary, secondary and tertiary branches per plant, moderate shoot length, average production of internodes and length of internodes per shoot which are important for high density planting to increase the income per unit area and facilitate better cultural practices. Neelum can be recommended to the growers in Orissa for high density planting programmes.
