Influence of ethylene on chemical characteristics of mango cv. Keitt fruits, harvested in the preclimacteric stage.

Abstract : Fruits of mango cv. Keitt, harvested from a commercial orchard in Lins, São Paulo, Brazil 170 days after fruit initiation were immersed in a solution of 500 or 1000 ppm Ethrel [ethephon] for 5 minutes. Examination 3, 6, 9 and 16 days after harvest showed that treatment had no significant effect on chemical characteristics of fruits although throughout maturation it increased soluble carbohydrate content and reduced vitamin C [ascorbic acid] content.
