Abstract : In 3 successive years (1988-91) at the Agricultural Research Station, Hanumanamatti, Karnataka, India, scions of the mango cultivars Alphanso [Alphonso] and Pairi were grafted onto seedling rootstocks at 15-day intervals between 1 July and 30 August. The grafts were kept in partial shade conditions and success was assessed after 60-90 days. The highest average graft success (50.33%) was achieved with grafts made in the first fortnight of August, followed by those make in the second fortnight of July. Graft success was much lower in 1989-90 than in the other 2 seasons, possibly due to lower humidity and higher temperatures. Average graft success did not differ greatly between the 2 scion cultivars.
