Abstract : In a trial carried out in 1993/94 in Maracay, Venezuela, 5-year-old mango cv. Haden trees on Criollo rootstock were sprayed with 5 litres of KNO3 solution/tree (8.0, 12.0 or 16.0 g/litre) in September, October and November 1993. Preliminary results showed that KNO3 advanced flowering by 28 days compared with untreated controls and harvest date was advanced by one month. Differences in the percentages of vegetative and reproductive shoots, and in fruit number and weight in June 1994, were also observed between treatments. Overall the best results were obtained with the three 12-g/litre treatments (equivalent total dose 3.6% KNO3).
