Effect of calcium nitrate on floral and vegetative bud break in mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Haden.

Abstract : In a trial in Aragua state, Venezuela, 2-year-old mango cv. Haden trees were sprayed with 0-18% calcium nitrate on 12 November 1993. Application of 4, 6, 9, 12 or 18% calcium nitrate significantly increased floral and total (floral and vegetative) bud break. The 6, 9, 12 and 18% treatments also significantly increased generative, floral and total shoot flux densities. This flowering promotion occurred 8 weeks before the natural occurrence of flowering in the region.
