Abstract : This disease is caused by Pseudomonas mangiferae-indicae, and is characterized by deep brown, stellate spots on fruits and angular, dark brown raised spots on leaves. In screening tests 30 cvs. showed up to 50% susceptibility; of these 4 showed 51-60%, 6 showed 61-70%, 7 showed 71-80%, 9 showed 81-90% and 4 showed >90%. Opt. conditions for infection included av. temp. of 32 deg C and RH >70%. Plants were more susceptible under 10 h light at 1000 lux than under 14 h. High infection was recorded with inoculum of 1 X 107 cells/ml and little or none with 1 X 103 cells/ml or less.ADDITIONAL ABSTRACT:Of 30 varieties tested for resistance to Ps. mangiferae-indicae, the four most resistant, with 55-60% plants susceptible, were Java, St. Julian, Baramasi and Himsagar.
