Abstract : Results of experiments conducted in Egypt on Langra mango trees during the seasons of 1988-89 and 1989-90 revealed that shading reduced vegetative growth, percentage flowering, final fruit retention and delayed ripening by 7-10 days. Shading increased fruit TTS, decreased the number of mature fruits per panicle and decreased the acidity of fruit juice. Shading increased the percentage water content of leaves and decreased the osmotic pressure of leaf sap during the period of flower bud formation. Shading increased the concentration of total indoles and decreased the concentration of phenols in terminal buds.
