Notes on plant pathogenic fungi on fruit trees hitherto not recorded in Orissa.

Abstract : Tropical fruit trees in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India, suffer from a wide variety of fungal pathogens. A study was undertaken to report the species and characteristics of pathogenic fungi not previously recorded on tropical fruit trees in Orissa. Diseased specimens were collected during different seasons of recent years in polythene bags, arranged between blotting papers, pressed and dried. Infected leaves were viewed and the nature of symptoms produced were recorded. The pathogens identified were: Cercospora catappe on Annona squamosa and A. reticulata; C. jujubae on Terminalia catappa; C. musae on Zizyphus jujubae; C. punicae on bananas; Geotrichum candidum on Punica orapatum; Gloeosporium mangiferae on sour oranges and citrons; G. musarum [Colletotrichum musae] on mangoes; Helminthosporium torulosum [Deightoniella torulosa]; Macrophoma musae, Nigrospora musae and Pestalotia dichaeta [Pestalotiopsis dichaeta] on bananas; Pestalotiopsis mangiferae on cashews; Pestalotia palmarum [Pestalotiopsis palmarum] on mangoes; Pestalotia psidii on coconuts; Pestalotia sapotae on guavas; and Phyllachora ambigua on Manilkara zapota.
