Abstract : Field trials in 1991-92 at Chapai Nawabgonj, Bangladesh, evaluated the efficacy of some chemical insecticides for the control of Idioscopus spp. In 1991, 3 formulations of cypermethrin (Biocyp, Arrivo and Ralothrin) 10 EC, 1 of fenvalerate (Sumitox) 20 EC, 2 of dimethoates (Sungor and Tafgor) 40 EC and Chemocarb 50 EC, and in 1992, 3 of cypermethrin (Fenom, Sunmerin and Cythrin) 10 EC, 1 of fenvalerate (Sunvalerate) 20 EC, 1 of alpha-cypermethrin (Alphaguard) 2 EC, 1 of dimethoate (Rogor) 40 EC and 1 of malathion (Maladan) 57 EC were evaluated. The insecticides were applied within 10 days of flowering and 1 month later. In the first trial, all the cypermethrins and fenvalerate and in the second trial, all the cypermethrin treatments were most effective and gave a higher percentage reduction of the pest population and increased fruit retention/100 inflorescences compared with the untreated control.
