Abstract : The 3 most widespread of the 5 groups of ancient mango trees on the Canary Islands, Gomera 1, 2 and 4, are described to ensure correct identification. Gomera 1 (manga blanca) is the most common rootstock on the islands, salt-resistant with rounded, firm, yellow fruit. Gomera 3 (mango macho) is susceptible to scale insects and fruit flies and has oval, yellow fruit with a granular texture. Gomera 4 is also sensitive to fruit fly and has kidney-shaped, orange fruit with a thin skin.
