Abstract : Superior mangoes were selected to obtain new Brazilian varieties. Open pollination of 11 varieties resulted in seeds producing 210 plants which were evaluated for inflorescence and fruit characteristics. Mango propagation via seeds resulted in high genetic variability, and in some characteristics the progenies surpassed the female parent or the standard varieties. Eleven plants were selected with similar or superior main characteristics to varieties Tommy Atkins and Haden 2H.
