Abstract : Monoembryonic Alphonso, Kalapady and polyembryonic Kitchner cultivars of mango recorded progressive reduction in weight, volume, and size of fruit with decreasing number of supporting leaves. Thirty leaves could not support the normal fruit growth in monoembryonic and polyembryonic cultivars. In control shoots, 9-11 leaves were sufficient for normal fruit growth. However, in the polyembryonic cultivar, the percentage reduction in fruit size was lower than in the monoembryonic cultivars. Fruit weight reduction was due to reduced fruit size.
