Abstract : A serious leaf-spot disease of mangoes (Mangifera indica) has been observed over the past 10 years in the Satpura plateau of India. Based on symptoms and cultural characteristics, the pathogen was identified as P. mangiferae, not previously reported from the Satpura plateau of India. Screening of 17 medicinal plants against the pathogen revealed that 14 were antimycotic while 3 plants, Argemone mexicana, Caesalpinia bonducella and Cassia fistula accelerated the growth of the pathogen. The maximum antifungal activity was shown by Eucalyptus globulus (88%) and Catharanthus roseus (88%) followed by Ocimum sanctum (85.50%), Azadirachta indica (84.66%), Ricinus communis (75%) and Lawsonia inermis (74.33%), while the minimum activity was exhibited by Jatropha curcas (10%).
