Abstract : The seasonal occurrence of Idioscopus nagpurensis, I. nitidulus and Amritodus atkinsoni was studied in a mango orchard at Dharwad, Karnataka, India, during 1988-90. Eight cultivars (Baneshan, Khader, Panchadhara Kalassa, Alempur Baneshan, Alphonso, Mulgao, Piarry and Neelum) and 6 hybrids (Neelgao, Rumani, Swarnjahangir, Mallika, Neeluddin and Neeleshan) of 12- to 14-year-old trees were treated with the recommended plant protection regime, and 3 trees (cv. Piari) were left unprotected. Insects were collected and identified at 2-week intervals. All cultivars and hybrids differed with respect to the incidence of insect numbers in different months. Cv. Baneshan and hybrid Neelgoa showed the lowest insect incidence. It is concluded that Baneshan, Khader, Neelgoa and Rumani could be used to develop further resistant cultivars and hybrids in the future.
