Abstract : Field studies were carried out during 1989-92 in Veracruz, Mexico, in mango orchards (cv. Manila) to determine the best product to attract Anastrepha obliqua in McPhail traps (filled with 300 ml of 2% borax solution). The products used were (1) natural products: fresh and fermented pineapple juice, molasses and cow milk serum; (2) fruit extracts: petroleum ether, ethyl alcohol and sodium hydroxide (2%) extracts of Spondias purpurea, S. mombin and mangoes, (3) commercial hydrolyzed proteins: NuLure, Captor 300, Bayer and Torula yeast. Treatments were renewed every 2 weeks in 1989, and every week during 1990-92. The most efficient treatment was the alcoholic abstract of S. purpurea. All natural products, and extracts of mangoes and S. mombin showed the lowest efficiencies.
