Abstract : A survey of urban trees, based on 30 sampling points (each point representing almost 800 m of pavement), was performed in downtown Itaguai, Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil. There was a very small percentage (0.03%) of urban trees compared with the recommended levels cited in the literature. The most common species were Delonix regia, Mangifera indica and Eugenia jambolana [Syzygium cumini]..
