Abstract : In a trial at Nambour, Queensland, Sensation mango fruits were bagged with commercially available plastic or paper bags 7 weeks before normal harvest. No significant differences in calcium concentrations between bagged (plastic or paper) and unbagged fruits were recorded for either skin or flesh tissue at harvest. Bags were removed at harvest. After harvest fruits were stored at 10°C for 15 or 30 days. Plastic bags resulted in increased fruit water (weight) loss during storage and softening and colouring of fruits which had been bagged with plastic were both hastened. Paper bags had no apparent influence, compared with unbagged control fruits, on weight loss or ripening characteristics.
