Abstract : Studies with scanning electron microscope in mango cultivar Amrapali revealed the presence of many hair-line cracks, pin-sized to large holes, disorganized cells and fungal mycelial infection (Fusarium moniliforme var. subglutinans [Gibberella fujikuroi]) at the base of the malformed bud during the bud inception stages. It is suggested that among other possible reasons, tissue damage caused by the fungus and sucking pests (Aceria mangiferae) may lead to the abnormal development of the malformed tissues.
