Abstract : From January 1994 to January 1995, the effects of girdling on flowering and production of mangoes of cultivar Tommy Atkins were investigated in Livramento, Bahia, Brazil. Five girdling treatments (30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 days before KNO3 spraying) and a control treatment (without girdling) were compared. Girdling trees 60 and 75 days before KNO3 application resulted in 80.3 and 82.5% flowering, and yields of 255.0 and 263.3 kg/tree, respectively, compared with 72.3% flowering and yields of 195.0 kg/tree in controls. Girdling 60 and 75 days beffore KNO3 application advanced harvest by 23 days, and all girdled plants had less vegetative growth compared with controls.
