Abstract : Research work on the cold storage of Indian mangoes is reviewed. Of the many cvs tested, Alphonso was the best for keeping in cold storage: optimum conditions 45 deg -48 deg F (7 deg -9 deg C), RH 85-90%, storage life approximately 7 weeks. The conditions for 7 other cvs are tabulated. Fruit should be mature with shoulders above the stalk cavity, hard and green. Ripening following storage should be at 67 deg -70 deg (19 deg -20 deg C) with RH 80-85%. Storage temperatures below 45 deg F lead to chilling injury manifested by pitting of the skin, failure to colour normally, inability to ripen satisfactorily and lowered resistance to decay organisms.
