Abstract : Jhumka disorder is characterized by clustering of fruitlets at the tip of the panicle, giving a bunchy appearance. Fruitlets are dark green with a deeper curve than normal in the sinus beak region. After reaching marble size, fruit growth is retarded and fruits eventually drop. The cause of this disorder is still unknown. An experiment was conducted on 10-year-old trees growing at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Rate of photosynthesis and chlorophyll content were lower in leaves of shoots bearing clustered fruits than in leaves bearing normal fruits. However, in clustered fruits, the chlorophyll content was higher than in normal fruits. Data are presented showing rate of respiration, reducing sugar contents, activities of polyphenol oxidase [catechol oxidase] and amylase in the 2 types of fruit. Values for all these parameters were higher in clustered fruits.
