Abstract : The geographical distribution of mango growing, and the cultural practices involved, are reviewed. Mangoes are cultivated in >100 countries worldwide, from the equator to close to 36° latitude. The current problems involved in mango growing are mostly economic. Progress in the control of flowering in the tropics and the subtropics, and recent research on the role of pollinator cultivars in improving fruit set are discussed. Other cultural practices such as high density plantings using trellis systems, dwarfing rootstocks or interstocks, and controlling growth and development are included. The need for research on the physiological disorder internal breakdown, which affects production in many countries, is highlighted.
