Abstract : Quality standard grades developed for fresh mangoes in Mexico are discussed and the requirements needed for the Extra class (superior quality), Class I and Class II grades are included. The characteristics of the mangoes which are considered when grading include the maturity index, postharvest behaviour, size, colour, injuries, defects and tolerances. A training manual has been produced which includes sampling and analytical techniques for grading mangoes. During the 1995 mango producing season, trained personnel advised mango exporters and packinghouses in Mexico on the improvement of mango quality.
