Abstract : Fruit cultivation in Venezuela is described with reference to geographic location; climatic factors; soils; ecosystems; generation and transfer of information; management; crop selection; intercropping; propagation; nursery requirements; crop protection; production seasons; planted area, yields and productivity of different fruit species; productivity of the most economically important fruit crops (avocados, bananas, pawpaws, mangoes, oranges, plantains and pineapples); other fruits with potential for greater production in Venezuela (including cashew nuts, Spondias cytherea, cherimoyas, Annona squamosa, Opuntia ficus-indica and tamarinds); imports of processed fruit products; fruit exports; problems experienced by exporters; marketing prospects; quality standards; and successful export programmes.
