Abstract : During 1991-94, the spatial patterns of the spread of floral malformation (caused by Fusarium moniliforme [Gibberella fujikuroi]) among diverse cultivars of 7-10-year-old mangoes growing in Uttar Pradesh, India, were investigated. The disease progress curves of regular (Neelum and Mallika) and alternate bearing (Banarasi Langra and Himsagar) cultivars were sigmoid and bimodal, respectively. Disease spread was faster in regular bearing cultivars than in alternate bearers. The rate of disease spread within the plant assumed logarithmic growth after the secondary source of inoculum was established in the plant. Disease gradient curves in all the cultivars were hyperbolic, but those of regular bearing cultivars were flatter near the source soon after disease initiation. The disease reached long distances in step wise progression. The direction of disease gradient curves were correlated with the direction of rain drop drift in June-July.
