Abstract : Mango inflorescence malformation disease (caused by Fusarium moniliforme [Gibberella fujikuroi]) has been introduced into West Bengal, India, through planting materials from northern India. During flowering in 1995, a survey of the disease was conducted in 3 orchards in Nadia, West Bengal. The 3 orchards contained plants of various cultivars from Himsager, Bombay Green, Langra, Amrapali, Mallika and Ranipasand. The disease occurred in all 3 orchards. The efficiency of inoculum in the environment was calculated, and the probability that a single spore can succeed in infecting was confirmed by a doublet test. Transmission from plant to plant was slow, and it is suggested that most of the infected plants were infected at the nursery stage.
