Abstract : F. sacchari was consistently isolated from malformed shoots and panicles of mango in Central Brazil in 1995 and 1996. Pathogenicity tests of the vegetative malformation isolate were carried out on potted 6-month-old Tommy Atkins seedlings by introducing a PDA disc with fungal mycelium and conidia in a vertical slit at the tip. The experiment was carried out under greenhouse conditions at EMBRAPA Cerrados. Symptoms of vegetative malformation appeared in 7 out of 11 (63.6%) inoculated plants. The pathogen was reisolated from the malformed shoots, but not from healthy control plants. This is the first published report of the F. sacchari pathogenicity in mango in Brazil.
