Abstract : Phytopathological aspects of the cultivation of avocados, feijoa [Acca sellowiana], mangoes and Japanese medlar [Mespilus] in Italy are described. Colletotrichum gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata] is one of the most important pathogens of avocados and mangoes, while Spilocaea eriobotryae was the most serious fungal pathogen of Japanese medlar. The susceptibility of these delicate fruits to different fungal diseases means that it is necessary to use preventive measures such as the avoidance of excessive humidity before and after harvest, avoidance of mechanical damage to the fruits, and adequate techniques of storage and commercialization. It is also important to use, when possible, varieties less susceptible to the pathogens.
