Abstract : A strain of B. bassiana was obtained from dead adults of R. bowringii which had been infected naturally. After purification, a large number of colonies were produced and used to control R. bowringii. Insects were either dipped in, or injected with, a spore suspension of B. bassiana. Mortality 7 days after dipping averaged 70.6% (larval mortality was 87.5%, and pupal and adult mortality was 36.7%). Mortality 7 days after injection averaged 66.1% (larval mortality was 82.5%, and pupal and adult mortality was 33.3%). In field studies conducted in China in a 27- and 15-year-old mango tree orchard, treatment with B. bassiana resulted in 83.7 and 84.1% control, respectively.
