Abstract : A flower malformation is described in which the panicle growth was compacted and the flowers very numerous and crowded on the axis; male flowers predominated and bracts made excessive growth at first. Malformed panicles tended to branch, producing up to 6 laterals. High levels of auxins and gibberellins were present in extracts of affected but not of healthy panicles.
