Abstract : A survey was carried out of 150 Maharashtra beneficiaries of an Indian horticultural scheme [year not given]. Education, annual income, family size and social background were found to be positively related to orchard sustainability which, however, was negatively correlated with the age of respondents: this indicates active participation by the young and middle age group respondents. The orchards of more scientifically oriented fruit growers with knowledge of mango and citrus cultivation were found to be more sustainable.
