Abstract : The selection and use of different mango cultivars in India is discussed. In a profitable mango orchard of 1632 plants of 25 cultivars in Kodur, Andhra Pradesh, only 2 (Neelam and Banglora) were considered to be suitable for extensive cultivation. The main commercial cultivars grown in India, especially in Andhra Pradesh, are described. The number of trees of these cultivars which should be planted to obtain maximum yields varies from 100-494 trees/ha depending on the cultivar grown. Other information given includes fruit bearing, suitability of a particular area for planting, quality, yield and price of the cultivars, other economic considerations, and propagation.
