Abstract : A total of 84 tropical fruit species (from 33 families) are grown in Soconusco in the State of Chiapas, Mexico. Cultural requirements and fruit production are described with reference to bananas, mangoes, pawpaws and rambutans. Harvesting methods, postharvest technologies and trade of bananas, plantains and mangoes are described.
