Abstract : In studies conducted in 1989, mango cv. Totapari stones were soaked in thiourea or KNO3 (each at 0.5 or 1.0%) for 24 h, or in water for 24, 48 or 72 h. The start of germination was earlier (18.67 days) when the stones were soaked in 0.5% KNO3 for 24 h. The time to 50% germination was also shorter (24 days) and the final germination percentage (70.67%) was highest in this treatment. Soaking of kernels in water for 24 or 48 h gave the next best results.
