Abstract : Water requirements of crops (including Citrus, bananas, mangoes and avocados) at Mpumalanga Laeveld in the Krokodilrivier watershed, South Africa, are described. The maximum daily requirements varied from 40 to 60 m³/ha. The effects of irrigation and drought during different growth stages (August-November, November-March, and March-July) on yield and quality of Citrus are discussed. Citrus was most susceptible to drought during November-March (fruit development). Net export returns (data of 1994/95) of Citrus were greatest (R?618 million), followed by those of avocados (R?56 million).
