Abstract : The use of organic fertilizers in mango cultivation was evaluated in relation to: physical and chemical characteristics of the soil; phytosanitary conditions; mango production; and fruit quality. Experiments were carried out in Bahia, Brazil, during 1996-97, using cv. Tommy Atkins in sandy red yellow podzols, with combinations of three sources (earthworm humus, cattle manure and a mixture of these) and 5 doses (0, 20, 40, 60 and 80 litres/plant) of organic material. Leaf tissue, disease incidence, vitamin C levels, brix and acidity of fruit, and soil characteristics were analysed.
