Abstract : The effects of aqueous sprays of salicylic acid (SA), acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) and methyl-2,6 dichloroisonicotinic acid (INA), which mimics SA action, were investigated in an orchard at Tando Jam, Pakistan and compared with those of NAA, Ag+ and Co2+ ions sprayed on juvenile fruits of mango cultivars Sindhri, Dasehri and Langra at pea size (5-6 mm) and 2 weeks later when they had attained marble size (10-15 mm). All the chemicals significantly enhanced fruit retention for all cultivars tested. On the basis of cost, easy availability and convenience of preparing aqueous solutions, the use of soluble ASA is recommended.
